Each year the Cabazon Outlet Mall hosts a large Chinese New Year Celebration. This outlet location draws a large percentage of tourists, from all across the world. The Chinese New Year Celebration is one of their largest events every year. 2019 is the year of the pig and I wanted to create a pig character to incorporate into my Chinese New Year store displays. Above is an example of one of the window clings used on the storefront.
For this event wanted to create a fun and playful character to complement the red and gold Chinese New Year decorations throughout the mall and the store. Above is the first draft hand sketch and the final Adobe Illustrator image of the character.
The color red represents good luck, joy, and happiness in Chinese culture. With Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Year overlapping, I wanted to make sure that both of the campaign materials coordinated and could be used at the same time. For each campaign, a visual merchandising guide is created to help the store implement their new display materials.
